Today, I want to give you some action items to think about as you’re preparing to go after your dream job. If you’ve been following me, you know my definition of a “dream job” is a job that aligns with your passion and purpose. In my new book, The Purposed Journey, I list several ways to prepare for going after your passion and purpose: Research the industry, obtain a degree or certification, hire a coach, buy a new wardrobe for the interview or outfit, find a mentor etc. I also mention updating your resume which is HUGE!! I even go as far to say hire a resume writer if need be, because let’s face it, you want to do what’s absolutely necessary to stand out. Recruiters review hundreds of resumes at a time sometimes so you want to make sure yours is not pushed to the side.
A fun fact about resumes: the formats change over time and guess what? Hiring managers and recruiters pay attention to that. You don’t want to submit an outdated format because there are candidates who pay attention to the trends and will stand out over you. That small attention to detail goes a long way. If you’ve had the same resume for years, it may be time for an update. Along with that, you have to make sure it is well written, no misspellings whatsoever. Even the first few sentences of your resume need to be on point! Your resume will make or break you. Since we are in a pandemic, I understand that funds may be low or allocated towards households needs; therefore, hiring a resume writer may be out of the question. I completely understand. Guess what though? The internet is our best friend and has so many resources at our fingertips!
One of the tools I recently came across is on ResumeBuilder.com. They have a free tool that will generate a resume that is up to date format wise and very professional looking. They also have other tools such as resume examples and resume resources that are designed to help you land the job you want. When you create your resume, make sure you take a look at those tools to see examples of other resumes that match your desired position. Afterwards, create your own resume with their resume builder. It’s very easy to navigate and you’ll be one step closer to landing your dream job! Are you ready to stand out and catch the attention of a hiring manager or recruiter? Good luck out there!
